The Centre for Bio-Resources focuses on the Sustainable development of Meghalaya for ensuring long-term maintenance of ecosystem health with Sustainable utilization of bio-resources through biotechnological approaches.

Currently, the Centre focuses on plant resources which include medicinal, aromatic, wild edibles and bio-resources of Meghalaya. Conservation of these resources has been initiated through Documentation, Collection, Propagation and Development of Agro-technologies for their sustenance.

The Centre established net working with various institution, viz. CIMAP, ICAR, BSI, ZSI, NEHU and State Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Medicinal Plant Board, Govt. of Meghalaya.

Water is a critical resource, central to the sustenance of all life. Developmental and livelihood activities at all levels are dependent on the availability of water; hence it’s efficient use, management and conservation is of utmost importance. Meghalaya, in spite of being rich in Water Resources, still faces water problems. Adding to the stress is the exploitation of Water Resources as well as other Natural Resources that directly or indirectly affect the Water Resources, of the State.

While water problems are complex the solutions need to be holistic. To better understand the problems of water resources in the State and develop effective and sustainable solutions, Centre for Water Resources has been envisioned.

The Centre for Water Resources is envisioned as the outcome of inter-departmental co-operation and convergence and covers a wide range of activities. The Centre focus on creating and making data sets pertaining to the Water Sector available for wider use and planning. Thus, it has the potential to bring about in the paradigm shift with respect to data management, knowledge management and inter-department integrated planning, The Centre  also facilitate capacity building both at various levels of the government as well as at the community level. The Centre participate in community focused level institution building and help setup a knowledge network with support from a growing cadre of para-hydrologist. The scope of the centre is wide and it is being geared up to make focused, need based and demand based interventions as and when required.

Climate change, in both scale and intensity, is without doubt the most significant threat that affects our most basic resources, environment and wellbeing. Combating climate change is a big challenge for the community who often lacks the robust systems and capacity to adapt. The State of Meghalaya is more vulnerable to climate impacts because of its location, physiography and socio-economic setup.

The Centre for Climate Change Adaptation  primary objective is to implement the State Action Plan on Climate Change by prioritizing sectors spelled out in the State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC) viz Green Energy,Water Sector etc including preparation of Detailed Project Report and facilitates implementation of prioritized sectors like Green Energy by integrating De-Centralized Green Energy Development Project in the state besides other initiatives to adapt and mitigate Climate Change.

The centre for Land Resources is established as a key resource center on matters relating to Land. The Centre will play a key role in helping bridge the gap existing between knowledge and dissemination.

Anthropogenic activities damaging the landscapes, threat from climate change, nutrient loss, pollution of land resources, unsustainable development practices, exploitation of resources, etc. are only a few of the numerous stresses on land resources which Meghalaya faces today. While the problems are complex the solutions need to be holistic. To better understand the problems and successfully navigate the nuances, the Centre for Land Resources has been envisioned.

The major role of the centre is to establish a comprehensive Land Use Data. This information is required to know the status of land use in the State and to identify the land use changes from year to year. This knowledge will help develop strategies to balance conservation, conflicting uses, and developmental pressures. Issues driving land use studies include the removal or disturbance of productive land, urban encroachment and depletion of forests.

The Centre is yet to be activated but the objective of this Centre is to bring out a Land Use Plan for the state based on its Land Capability Classes in line with the Land Use Policy of other state and Central Government land Use Policy.

This is another Centre that is yet to be activated. However, the Centre mandate is to saturate the State with low cost and farmers friendly Weather Stations so as to capture data on rainfall, temperature, sunshine hour, wind speed and wind direction etc. and the data captured are analyzed and transmitted as advisories to the farming community to plan their planting/harvesting time besides creating a repository of data for the state as currently very few stations are available with state/central agency like India Meteorological Department.
